Who We Are
We began our journey at Borough Market in 2002 with our straight from the barrel, I WILL REFILL wine on tap concept. Our business was good for the environment and highly accessible for customers.

We were one of the first to champion smaller, independent producers for the U.K. market, offering unique and interesting wines with real provenance. Many are certified organic and vegan, with ‘natural’ and biodynamic wines featuring heavily. All of these approaches are underpinned by a real commitment to sustainability, which we believe is the key factor in determining what makes great wine.

Since then a lot of wine has flowed under the bridge, and we have continued to be at the forefront of change in the drinks industry. Always looking to innovate, we have devised SustainableWineSolutions as the go to service provider for the trade’s sustainable wine needs. We invested in a new bottling and kegging facility in Greenwich Peninsula, allowing us to go full circle in the bottling process and fully embrace the circular economy.

We have also invested in people, bringing in experts in the bottling process and operations to ensure watertight quality control every step of the way. By leveraging the benefits of big scale technology on a boutique scale we are able to improve all aspects of supply, covering margins, quality, service and choice.

Zero Waste Solutions

Bottle Return

Bringing back the bottle return scheme.

  • We have always believed that the bottle needs to be part of the solution. So when Damien Barton of the Bordeaux Barton-Sartorius wine dynasty came to us with an idea for a bottle deposit scheme, we didn’t think twice.
  • Flexibility, cost effectiveness and a genuine commitment to sustainability are our key priorities with this initiative; the more partners we have, the more of a difference we can make and deliver the practical benefits of bigger scale production on a boutique level.
  • Let’s see how many bottles we can save together!

  • Our Bottle Return scheme enables you to supply the traditional 750ml glass bottles with a sustainable twist: each bottle is designed so it can be returned, sterilised and reused with our Zero Waste Wine range. Our stringent quality control process to ensure every bottle is in perfect condition before it’s put back into use.
  • Whilst the bottles and labelling are 100% recyclable, our aim is to slowly increase the proportion of bottles returned until 9/10 bottles sold in the off–trade and 6/10 sold in on–trade make it back to us for reuse.
  • Customers are encouraged to bring back the bottle through the introduction of a 50p per bottle refundable deposit.
  • Minimum order of 6 wines.
  • 50p deposit incentive for return of empties: deductible from next purchase from the range.
  • Direct delivery from our North Greenwich depot anywhere in the U.K.
  • Delivered in easily stackable recycled plastic crates.
  • Weekly collection and drop off reduces hassle and expense of waste disposal.
  • No more packaging saves recycling costs.
  • Improve your green credentials; we estimate that each bottle can be reused around to 30 times before needing to be recycled.
  • Fantastic value for money with great wines from sustainable winemakers.
  • Reinforces a sense of community from returning customers.

  • Ideal for smaller bars, restaurants and shops, popups and mobile units.
  • No installation or set up costs.
  • Each 10 L VinoTap™ is equivalent to 13.3 bottles, saving around 6kg of glass from being produced and disposed of.

  • Improved convenience, with no no corks, caps or half-empty bottles. Deliver quick, precise pours of just the wine you need, with no oxidisation or cork taint.

The U.K.’s only 100% reusable kegs. Say no to plastic kegs!

  • We were the first to introduce Wine on Tap to the U.K. We have installed our kegs in bars, restaurants and events spaces across the country. In 2018 we began using EcoFass keys, enabling us to provide outlets with the only 100% reusable keg available in the U.K.

  • You choose the wines.
  • 1 – 3 weeks between the moment you contact us to the moment you serve your first glass.

Our Wines
We source top quality wines from sustainable winemakers around the world, transporting it in bulk and delivering it to customers in our three sustainable formats to minimise environmental impact.

Our entire bottling process is managed in–house for ultimate quality control, with our Kegs,  VinoTap™, ReturnBottles all filled at our specialised London facility.

With a strong focus on organic, vegan and biodynamic wines, every winemaker we work with is committed to reducing their waste output and practicing the least impactful grape growing and winemaking techniques. We have launched this range with 20 core wines, which will grow as we discover new producers who align with our values, quality criteria and market demand.

Who We Work With
Karl Franz
Sensible Wine Services

The tubes and the packaging look great and the freshness and longevity of the samples separate this process from all competitors. The service and reactivity of Borough Wines has been extremely helpful in what has been an impressive uptake from our clients. They have helped us develop and fill a gap in the market with an extremely premium product at a competitive price. Jonathan and the team at Borough Wines have been a joy to work with and we look forward to developing this partnership in the future.

Sarah Ley
Tower Theatre

18 months ago we chose Borough Wines as our supplier for the bar in our new theatre in Stoke Newington. Our aim was to supply a top notch range of wines with the minimum of waste and recycling. Job done! No piled-up cases of wines taking up storage space, No huge bags of noisy clanking empty bottles and great feedback from our customers. What’s not to like?

Inga Zubaviciute
Royal Lancaster London

We started working with Borough Wines for their innovative approach as we were looking for a partner for our sustainable restaurant Island Grill. Wines on tap is still the most sustainable solution in the market – and our best seller on the menu! Our guests love the wine and quality of it, we love knowing every biodegradable wine bag saves 32 glass bottles. Borough Wines supported us along the way and continue to do so.

Becka Whiteley

Sustainability is built into Shambala’s DNA and it’s incredibly important to us to reduce waste and emissions wherever possible. This is why we were very excited to start working with Borough Wine Imports last year, who offer the most sustainable solution currently possible to wine sourcing. The wine is shipped in tanks from Europe which circumvents the bottling process – saving a huge amount of energy! Once it gets to the UK, it’s transferred into reusable kegs and then dispensed through taps into our reusable festival cups. It’s a total win win, and a perfect match with our values as an organisation.

Jim Gore
Global Wine Academy

I have been using the rebottling service provided by Borough Wines since the beginning of lockdown and we have been able to not only retain our wine tasting students but to gain further ones across Europe and Asia. The test tubes are perfectly sized and easy to use and transport and look pretty cool too! The service has been a lifeline to me and my students over 2020.
