MEET Lorenzo Caponi & Daniele Nannetti
Please introduce yourself and your winery
I’m Daniele Nannetti, a 38 years-old agricultural and touristic entrepreneur born in Florence and have come back to the homeland after some years of globetrotting when, with my business partner Hector Cuadra we decided to purchase the Villa Petriolo Estate and farm in 2018 .
Briefly, what does sustainability mean to you?
Sustainability for me it’s the way to produce something , in this case the wine , without stressing the nature and polluting the environment . Likewise Sustainibility is the only way allowed to preserve the future of our kind.
What steps are you taking to be more sustainable in your vineyard and winery?
Villa Petriolo is a full organic and zero-waste project which means , for example, that we don’t use pesticides and other chemical based products and according to the circular economy we use our farm’s manure as the natural fertilizer.
Who is the unsung hero in your workforce?
Fabrizio is the man behind the scenes and the one who make all of this possible . He’s a 360’s degree man of the farm : taking care at the same time of the animals and the agriculture productions.
What impact do you think climate change will have in your region over the next few decades?
The biggest challenge for the Tuscanian Winemakers during this decade will be to preserve the centuries-old tradition according to the idea of eco-sustainability which basically means a jump into the past looking to the future.
Which is your favourite grape variety to work with?
Without any doubt Sangiovese
What would be the perfect food pairing for the wine you’re supplying to BW?
Scamerita of Cinta Senese which is a roast of a noble Tuscan breed of Pork
How would you pitch your wine to a customer at a bar or restaurant?
THIS SANGIOVESE PUTS EVERYONE IN AGREEMENT. FRESH AND FRUITY DRINKS MAKE IT SUITABLE FOR any occasion
